Something New
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with looking back over the past. Reflection is a good thing. There's a lot we can learn from both our successes and our failures. However, the reality is that if we dwell on these moments too much, it can have an adverse affect on our present and consequently our future.
How so? When we constantly rehearse the disappointments of our past we tend to allow negativity to seep into our everyday lives. We trust less, worry more and often find an excuse not to even try. Focusing on our achievements can be just as detrimental. When we dwell on old accomplishments and never attempt anything new, we limit ourselves from achieving our full potential.
Read Isaiah 43:18-19King James Version (KJV):
18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
In this passage, a challenge emerges for us to shift our focus from what was to what will be. God takes the lead and shows us how to make this concept a reality.
Behold I will do a new thing.
He determines to do something and declares it.
Have you come up with an idea? Take it a step further.
...now it shall spring forth.
Don't wait. Don't procrastinate. Do it now.
...shall ye not know it
Talk about it. Let people know. Yes, it’s true - not everyone needs to hear about your ideas or projects while you work them out. In the beginning, find someone you can trust to share your vision with. Once you’re set to go, then let the world know.
I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Be specific. Map out your ideas in detail. Create a plan that will give direction to your goals then go after it.
Here’s to something new for me and you!
Happy New Year!
