What Did I Tell You
I played basketball all four years in college. A year after graduating, God made a way for me to play overseas. I had a great season in Turkey: averaging a 'double double' and finishing 'Top 3' in rebounding. I came home excited about my potential as a professional basketball player and seized an opportunity to train with the local WNBA team as a practice player. This was no ordinary team, though. This was the Four-time WNBA Champion Houston Comets.
While talking with one of the assistant coaches, after practice, I mentioned that my goal was to make it to the WNBA and asked for tips on how to improve my game. He told me not to get my hopes up because I was “not quick enough to play a Guard and not tall enough to play the Post.”
I was crushed.
Why would God let me come this far only to have it end here??!! Why would He let me put in all that work for nothing?! Why???????
I went home, laid on my bedroom floor and cried.
...and cried, and cried, and cried...until my nose ran and my eyes were puffy and red.
...and cried, and cried, and cried...until my nose ran and my eyes were puffy and red.
Then God said:
But, what did I tell you?
At some point in your life, someone may have told you:
At some point in your life, someone may have told you:
- You’re not good enough
- You’ll never amount to anything
- You’ll be a deadbeat like your dad
- You'll never make it out of here alive
- That disease will take you like it did other members of your family
- Nobody will ever love you
- You’re too....
But what is God saying to you?
Will you believe that instead?
Ever since that moment on my bedroom floor, God's word has been the driving force of my life.
A couple of months later, I was invited to tryout for Nigeria's National Women's Basketball Team.
I made the team. We competed in the FIBA Africa Cup Tournament and won Gold - Nigeria would then represent the continent of Africa at the FIBA World Championships the following year in Brazil. I was there. On top of that, my picture was featured in the FIBA World media guide.
I was also selected to be the Captain of the Nigerian basketball team that competed in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.
I'm an All-Africa Games Silver Medalist
I'm an Africa Club Bronze Medalist.
To God be all the glory.
"Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask
or think, according to the power that worketh in us," - Ephesians 3:20

There comes a point when you have to decide who will have the final say in your life.
Let God have the final say.
